There are a lot of home owners in Nova Scotia that are using oil every winter to heat their home plus their hot water.
Combine the unpredictable cost of oil with the fact that oil tanks have to be replaced every few years and it’s easy to understand why many home owners want to be DONE with oil.
We help homes every year get off oil by switching entirely to electric.
Before you start thinking…”whoa, isn’t electric going to be more expensive?” We’re not talking about old school electric baseboards here. What we’re talking about is a blended electric system consisting of ductless heat pumps, high efficiency baseboards and possibly a high efficiency hot water tank and electric thermal storage unit.
The process isn’t as scary as it might seem.
1.) Usually we need to upgrade your electrical service. Most homes with oil heating and hot water have 100 amp or 125 amp service. Our electricians can complete and electrical upgrade to 200 amp service.
2.) If you oil hot water baseboards we drain the system and remove the baseboards.
3.) Electric baseboards are installed to cover the cold spots in the home where a heat pump or ets system cannot cover.
4.) Ductless heat pumps are installed in the home to provide heat in the main living areas.
5.) If opted for an ETS system is installed usually on the lower level of the home to provide time of day savings.
6.) A high efficiency hot water tank is installed to reduce your hot water costs as much as possible.
7.) We drain your oil tank, remove it from the property and take the furnace too.
This is an amazing change over for a home that can be done all in one shot, or can be done in stages. Even better this type of upgrade qualifies for financing through Nova Scotia Power’s on-bill financing program.
